Vitesse Arnhem are off the bottom of the Eredivisie after a 3-0 win over Cambuur on Saturday evening.

With Emmen and Volendam drawing on Friday, Vitesse moved to the bottom of the table and the need for a win was heightened. Phillip Cocu had overseen two losses so far but he got his first win in Leeuwarden.

After 20 minutes, Vitesse had the lead with a free-kick finding Ryan Flamingo, who worked the ball in from close range. VAR looked for a possible offside, but the goal was eventually given.

Just before half time, Vitesse thought they had a penalty when Jamie Jacobs brought down Gabriel Vidovic, but after an intervention by the VAR, referee Laurens Gerrets decided to award a free kick outside the penalty area, which came to nothing.

Ten minutes into the second half, Vitesse lost goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen to injury and  Daan Reiziger came on. This did not affect the visitors and Kacper Kozlowski made it 2-0 in the 74th minute after being given time to race forward and place his shot.

Sondre Tronstad then sealed the win for Vitesse, who now climb up to 16th in the table. Cambuur is one spot above them.
