PSV currently sit top of the Eredivisie and Cocu stressed that his players must remain sharp going into the game against VVV, who have been a surprise package so far this season.

Cocu said, “We stressed the importance of remaining sharp in training this week. As different things are asked of our players at international level than here at PSV. So the players have to get used to being back after two weeks away.

”It is difficult for me to judge if the astroturf on the VVV Venlo pitch will be an obstacle for us. But if that is the case we will have to adapt and that may well be an important factor.

”We must remain sharp against VVV Venlo as that will be an important aspect of the match in my opinion.”

PSV may have to do without Hirving Lozano, though, with Cocu saying, ”Hirving Lozano is doubtful for the match on Sunday due to sustaining an injury in the first international match he played during the international break. We will know at the last minute if he is available for the match against VVV Venlo this weekend.”
