Cocu stated before the match that he was hoping his side could keep a clean sheet in Eindhoven, and that’s exactly what PSV did, despite being reduced to ten men just after the hour mark when Gaston Pereiro saw red.
Speaking after the game, Cocu said, “I’m very satisfied with the result. I said before that if you can keep a clean sheet at home, you lay a good foundation for the return leg. We have something to fight for in Madrid. If we can score a goal, we have a chance to reach the last eight. We’re going to give everything to do that.”
On Pereiro’s second yellow, Cocu admitted he was unhappy with the decision, “I don’t think it was a yellow card. His opponent was very clever and it’s a lesson for us.”
