Phillip Cocu has apologised to Fenerbahce’s supporters after their 4-1 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League.

Cocu left PSV for Fenerbahce in the summer but has had a torrid time in charge of the Turkish giants so far. Already out of the Champions League, Fenerbahce have only picked up six points from five league games and on Thursday they were hammered 4-1 by Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League.

Some Fenerbahce fans are already calling for Cocu to be sacked and the Turkish media is also predicting his dismissal.

Speaking to the press after their defeat in Croatia, Cocu said, “I want to congratulate Dinamo, they played a good game. But we can never again play football like we have played football today.

“For this very bad performance, we apologize to the fans and the club.

“Criticism from the supporters? It would surprise me if it does not come, especially after a defeat like this one. I am extremely disappointed and I am sure that this also applies to our fans. “

The fixtures don’t get any easier for Cocu with Fenerbahce facing fierce rivals Besiktas on Monday evening.
