Netherlands are unbeaten since last August, and the 2-2 draw with Estonia last Friday is the only time Louis van Gaal’s side have dropped points in their World Cup qualifying campaign. Their participation in next years tournament was made official with two games to spare, as they saw off Andorra 2-0 to make it 7 wins out of 8 in Group D.
The Oranje were the first European nation to qualify, but Johan Cruyff feels the current Dutch side is not among the favourites next year, and fears a hammering if they met host Brazil.
Cruyff told RTL Late Night, “We should be happy if we survive the group stages at the World Cup. We will have done a good job if we reach the knockout stages,”
“It’s really not that hard to judge the teams that will be at the World Cup. I saw Brazil play at the Confederations Cup. They will crush Holland. We only stand a chance against them if we can keep up football wise.”
Netherlands actually faced Brazil in their home country two years ago, and escaped with a 0-0 draw, while they beat the Samba stars in the 2010 World Cup 2-1.
