Ajax were 3-0 behind and a man down heading into the second half of extra-time, but goals from Nick Viergever and Amin Younes ensured the Amsterdam side’s progression 4-3 on aggregate.
After the game Klaassen said, “Nick Viergever could barely walk at the end but he proved his worth. He also scored last weekend against Heerenveen. At one point we started to lose belief through not creating chances but I spoke to the manager at some point during extra time and I was adamant that we would score, It’s unbelievable.
“We did not start the game well and we suffered during the first 10 minutes not playing like we can. In the 2nd half we were down after conceding two goals so quickly. After the red card from Veltman we had to keep going to force extra time.
“Once the 3-0 went it we all looked at one another and decided that we must go for it. We are going to feel the 120 minutes tonight and against PSV Eindhoven on Sunday. But no excuses we must be ready for Sunday.”
