After months of specualtion over which club the 16-year-old would join, Odegaard was unveiled by Real Madrid yesterday, with the Spanish giants reportedly paying the youngster €2.5 million a year.
Ajax were one of the clubs chasing Odegaard’s signature, and when asked about the Norwegian’s decision to join Real Madrid, Frank de Boer said, “What do i think about his decision? I can’t look into his head.”
“I saw that he’s going to earn €100,000 per week, I can imagine why he’s chosen that.
De Boer then joked, “Marc Overmars (Ajax director) said we were close. Real pay €4.8m and Marc offered only €4.7m”
“He was supposed to come to us after we had our training camp in Dubai, but due to an injury he couldn’t. That’s a shame, but I think he’d already made his decision.
“He could have been a very important player for Ajax in the future and we would have been beautiful for his development.”
