The 18-year-old is going through a tough period at PSV Eindhoven, but was called into De Boer’s squad and could have made his Oranje debut. However, a groin injury has forced the youngster to pull out.
At his press conference, De Boer said, “You also want to support him and say that you believe in him. Mo is eighteen years old and still has a lot to learn. It’s about the development of a young player, you want to teach him what it all entails.”
De Boer thinks the senior Netherlands players could help the talent through his difficult spell, “When Virgil van Dijk, Memphis Depay, Georginio Wijnaldum or Daley Blind explains something, it is much better for such a player than for me to explain it. We want to help him and that is why it is a shame that he dropped out with a groin injury. Hopefully he can soon return to the level he was last year.”
