The former Ajax and Inter Milan boss is currently the bookmakers favourite to replace Claude Puel, who was sacked on Wednesday.
However, the Independent is reporting that the Dutchman is not in contention for the job, with Southampton hoping to appoint Alaves coach Mauricio Pellegrino. Southampton’s top target was reportedly former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel, but the German turned down the Premier League side.
De Boer held talks with Crystal Palace last week and it appears the London-based side are his only option at the moment in England. The former defender is currently on holiday in Ibiza and his brother Ronald told Fox Sports on Thursday that he would make a decision on his future when he gets back this weekend.
