De Boer had to wait until his fifth match in charge of Oranje to record his first victory. His side was too strong for Bosnia and Herzegovina and recorded a 3-1 victory.
After the game, De Boer spoke with NOS, “We used a fast pace and had a lot of energy. We had depth behind the last line and played well between the lines. They had a lot of trouble with that. We have indicated that in advance as staff: Especially the first 20 to 25 minutes full throttle and try to make the difference with a high pressing pace. They did a fantastic job.”
Asked why it had not worked in his first four games in charge, De Boer responded, “If I knew that, I would probably be the best trainer in the world.”
De Boer also saw room for improvement, “We didn’t reward ourselves for finishing the chances and we also gave away a number of half chances ourselves. That must be better.”
De Boer was happy with Memphis Depay’s performance, “You can see that he feels good about himself. I know he can play well as a left winger or as a striker. He is multifunctional.”
Good game with Netherlands specially at the first half. If this team tries to play with high pace and constant pressing, they would be one of the best for sure. I think the problem with this team is they play slowly, specially in previous matches. About manager arranging, why on the earth is luuk de jong a starter, I don’t understand it, he is so passive and harmless, obviously malen is a much better option and he should start next games. And about reserves players who came in, van aanholt and hateboer, really??? Why didn’t use gravenberch and malen?
Hope for better results soon.
I agree with you. Very nice game. I am Bangladeshi. I am now 53 years old. I have been a supporter of the Netherlands football team for the last 35 years. I am very happy to love this team. Again many nights have passed with great difficulty.
Last night was a joy for me.
