Frank de Boer does not agree with the criticism surrounding Netherlands performance against Turkey on Wednesday.

Netherlands lost their opening World Cup qualifier 4-2 on Wednesday in Istanbul leading to more pressure and criticism for Frank de Boer.

Speaking at his press conference on Friday ahead of the clash with Latvia, De Boer thinks the criticism is unfair, especially the suggestion that his team pass the ball sideways too often.

He said, “It is not the case that we have taken it easy. I don’t know if you saw Spain yesterday, they also had a terribly difficult time against Greece. Then you try to find holes, which is very difficult.

“I think we always try to play as quickly and directly as possible. We also have the types for that. Daley plays in such a way at Ajax, his first thought is always ahead. Frenkie always wants to play ahead too. I think we hardly played the ball back to Tim (Krul), for example.”

De Boer wants to see his side take more of their chances, “Ultimately, of course, it is about creating opportunities. We had some decent attacks with Donyell Malen in the first half. You just want to see that more. Then it’s all about the small details. Hopefully, we can bring those details that we missed to the duel with Latvia.”
