De Boer was a guest on De Tafel van Kees, and said “We were looking after Van Nistelrooy, Kluivert and Van Persie for a long time for a new striker and we thought with Janssen it had been found. The last couple of times he was unchallenged at Orange, but I worry.
“In ten internationals four goals for Oranje, which is a nice average. One goal, also a penalty for Tottenham in thirteen games, which is less. He is injured, playing little and raises doubts with the public and especially the press. Considerable criticism is expressed.
“If Janssen is not going to play, we have a big problem.”
Kenneth Perez thinks Janssen must be given time. “From AZ to the top of England is a big step. And Harry Kane is, of course, the first choice striker.
“Janssen showed it at first, but his goals did not come. As a striker that is how you are judged.”
If Janssen continues to be out of form / not playing the next few months, a sensible coach would select Van Persie and play him at CF against Bulgaria. Unfortunately the Oranje do not have the most sensible coach at the present time 🙁
This is true and perhaps the kid made the jump too soon! Injury didn’t help him and it would be nice to see van Persie back in the orange shirt! But for Janssen, he needs a mentor…like van Persie or a loan spell at a smaller club where he can play regular football and regain some of the confidence.
