The game against PEC Zwolle played second fiddle in the Amsterdam Arena on Sunday as Ajax paid respect to the late Johan Cruyff, who died of lung Cancer recently.
After the game De Boer praised the tribute, and his players, who didn’t lose concentration despite the occasion.
He told Fox Sport: “I think we played solid,”
“It certainly was not our best game of the season. PEC put us under early pressure, and we anticipated it badly, and we won few second balls. Fortunately for the goals we did good, so we went wonderfully calm to the break with a 3-0 lead.
“After the break, we still had some chances, but we were not very thorough. It was a worthy farewell for Johan. Perhaps therefore it was good that the match was not very sparkling, so all the attention went to the tribute. ”
On his players focus he added, ‘You have to wait and see if the real focus is there. Barcelona lacked the focus that they normally have against Real Madrid (Real won 1-2 on Saturdy). Then you see that this can have consequences. Whether we then have more (focus) than Barcelona? Haha no, I guess not. “
