Groningen moved into the top six of the Eredivisie after seeing off bottom side De Graafschap 2-1 on Saturday evening.

gron deDe Graafschap went into the game still searching for their first win of the season and against an opponent who had not won away yet this campaign they would have been confident of a first success.

However the home side once again failed to take charge of a game and allowed Groningen the better chances in the first half. After Jesper Drost and Jarchinio Antonia had both wasted good opportunities Albert Rusnak finally broke the deadlock four minutes before half time.

In the second half Michael de Leeuw made it 2-0 with a stunning lob over Hidde Jurjus before Nathan Kabasele reduced the deficit from the penalty spot after a handball from Kasper Larsen.

De Graafschap went looking for an equaliser, but Groningen held on for the three points which takes them 6th.
