de graaf lslKarim Tarfi’s sweetly struck 88th minute free kick sparked scenes of jubilant celebration and relief as 10 men De Graafschap won their first game of the season. You could have been forgiven for thinking that they had won the Champions League.

After the game, coach Jan Vreman said on the win, ”All the supporters have been living for the moment that we would win”.

”It’s a huge relief but there is a long way to go and we have to keep going but this definitely does help. It is also a reward for our travelling fans as they have given us fantastic support by coming to Leeuwarden in such big numbers”.

The coach added on the 88th minute goal by Tarfi, ”I hoped that Karim would shoot in a controlled way with so much power and pace behind the ball that it could be difficult for the keeper and that it might go between the posts”.

The win was not enough to lift De Graafschap off the bottom, but they now only trail second bottom Cambuur by two points.
