Frenkie de Jong doesn’t believe that reaching the Champions League knockout rounds instantly makes the season in Europe a success for Ajax.

Ajax will seal their place in the Champions League knockout rounds on Tuesday if they equal or better Benfica’s result. Ajax travel to AEK Athens while Benfica are in Munich to face Bayern.

Frenkie de Jong spoke to the press on Tuesday and said he was aiming for more than just reaching the last 16, “The Champions League adventure is not yet successful if we qualify for the next round. You can not say that something is successful when you are still working on it. If we continue, that would be a good step and then we will see further.”

De Jong is happy with Ajax’s form, “I think we are doing a good job, although there is always room for improvement. But we win almost everything and generally play good football, so you can talk about a positive flow. Extra pressure for tomorrow’s match? At Ajax there is always pressure. I do not think it’s different than on other days. “
