Barcelona returned to La Liga action with a simple 4-0 victory over Mallorca on Saturday evening.

Barcelona returned to league action sitting top of the table and looking to extend their slender lead over Real Madrid. Frenkie de Jong took his place in midfield from the start, with Lionel Messi in the attack and Luis Suarez on the bench.

After only two minutes, De Jong won a duel just outside the box, played the ball to Jordi Alba, who swung a cross in for Arturo Vidal to head Barcelona ahead.

Eight minutes before the break, Barcelona made it 2-0 with Martin Braithwaite finishing after being set up by Messi.

Mallorca then caused the visitors some problems but eventually in the 79th minute, Alba made it 3-0. De Jong was then substituted with a few minutes to go, and in injury time Messi added a fourth.

A good solid start back to the league for De Jong and Barcelona. They are now five points clear at the top of the table. On Tuesday they host Leganes.
