Barcelona drew 1-1 at Napoli in the first-leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash.

Frenkie de Jong played a bit part role from the bench in the win over Eibar at the weekend but the Dutchman returned to the starting eleven in Naples.

However, the midfielder could not help Barcelona create chances in a first half they dominated possession without hurting the home side. On the half-hour mark, Dries Mertens fired Napoli in front from the edge of the box. The ex-PSV winger is now tied with Marek Hamsik as the club’s leading scorer.

In the second half, Barcelona eventually equalised after a fine move was finished off by Antoine Griezmann. That proved to be the final goal of the game as it finished 1-1. The second leg will take place at the Nou Camp in two weeks.

De Jong played the full ninety minutes, completing 93.5% of passes, creating one chance, while making two tackles and two interceptions.
