Frenkie de Jong was happy to have netted his first goal for Barcelona in the 5-2 win over Valencia at the weekend.

The midfielder earned rave reviews in the Spanish media for his performance in the victory over Valencia. De Jong set up Ansu Fati for the opener in the 2nd minute before netting his first goal for the club minutes later.

The Dutch international also completed 100% of his passes during the game and earned a rousing reception when he was substituted with twenty minutes to go.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, De Jong said, “I was a lot more dominant at the ball, making this my best performance in the competition. Not that it was very bad so far, but it was better against Valencia .”

De Jong is also relieved to have his first goal out of the way, “I also know that a first goal plays a role in the outside world . So then I am rid of the whining”

De Jong dismissed comments that it was the best performance of his career, “Certainly not, because I hope I have attained a higher level in my career. But we can continue to build on this match as a team. We have the potential to make it a great season. “
