Ajax sensations Frenkie de Jong is keeping his feet on the ground and has dismissed comparisons to Oranje great Johan Cruijff.

After Netherlands win over France during the international break, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf’s front page read “After Cruijff, now Frenkie.”

The hype surrounding the 21-year-old midfielder is growing week by week with Manchester City, Barcelona and PSG all reportedly battling for his signature.

However, speaking to De Telegraaf, De Jong is keeping his feet on the ground, “I had a good week with the Dutch team. We managed to qualify for the next round of the Nations League, so that’s great.

“I know the stories will come, but it was quite extreme this time.

“I try to stay focused on what I should be doing. It’s nice to hear, but I’m not even close to Johan Cruyff’s level and I’ll never reach it, so I make no illusions.”
