Ajax remains two points behind PSV at the top after a comfortable 4-1 win over PEC Zwolle. The highlight was an excellent solo goal by Frenkie de Jong.

Ajax went into the game without Kasper Dolberg, who was suffering with a knee injury, but his replacement, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar was the one who opened the scoring on 22 minutes. A ball over the top was worked into Huntelaar’s path by Dusan Tadic and the striker tapped in the opener.

In the 32nd minute, it was 2-0 as Frenkie de Jong, linked this week with a €75 million move to PSG, strode forward and jinked past several defenders before finding the bottom corner with a great strike from just outside the box.

It was all very comfortable for Ajax but Erik ten Hag was then dealt another two injury blows with Donny van de Beek and Andre Onana forced off. Just before the break, former Ajax youngster Zian Flemming headed past Kostas Lamprou to make it 2-1 at the break.

The goal just before the break gave PEC Zwolle hope heading into the second half and Lamprou had to deny Thomas Lam the equaliser as the hosts caused Ajax problems.

However, Lasse Schone eventually added a third for Ajax with a well-controlled volley from a corner. Tadic then sealed the win late on with a close range finish after being played in by Huntelaar.

The victory sees Ajax, who face Bayern Munich in midweek, remain just two points off PSV at the top while PEC Zwolle are 15th.
