Newcastle United have announced the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach forward Luuk de Jong on loan until the rest of the season.

de jong wThe striker moves on an initial loan, but can make the move permanent in the summer, for a reported fee of £8 million. De Jong will wear the number 18 shirt, and can make his debut against fierce rivals Sunderland on Saturday.

Speaking to the official Newcastle website, De Jong said, “Newcastle is a great club and I have a good feeling about it,”

“I am very impressed with the stadium and training ground and have been made to feel very welcome by everyone I have met.

“It has been a tough season for me so far but I am here to play games and want to be important for the team, and successful with goals and assists.

The Dutch international has hardly played this season after falling out of favour in the Bundesliga, with the striker making only 14 substitute appearances without scoring a goal.
