Last week De Jong, who has been ravaged by injuries since joining Newcastle, admitted he was open to a return to Netherlands on loan if he could not force his way into the club’s line-up.
However McClaren has shut down any chance of the former Ajax midfielder leaving as he believes it is only a matter of time before De Jong has a big impact on his side.
McClaren told Northern Echo, “His attitude is fantastic and we don’t want to let him go anywhere.
“We speak regularly and Siem is one of those players who is adjusting to the Premier League – he didn’t have that adjustment last year, so he is adjusting this year and has been a little bit unlucky.
“He is a vital part of the squad and someone we think will eventually get in the team.
“At the moment he is an impact player and we want him to come on and win a game for us.
“He can keep possession, he is that good a player, that is a big part of his game but I think he is suffering from being a year out.”
De Jong has only started one Premier League game since joining Newcastle from Ajax in 2014.
