It is the saga of the summer so far, and Manchester United’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong is dragging on and on and on.
There is varying reports on how close the deal is each day but now the usually reliable ‘The Athletic’ is reporting that De Jong has no interest in joining the Premier League side.
The midfielder does not want to play in the Europa League next season and the report even states that the arrival of Erik ten Hag in Manchester does not sway De Jong as he does not have a “Particularly special relationship” with his former Ajax boss.
Barcelona bosses have always stated that they do not want De Jong to leave but have added that the financial situation of the club may change that. Reports at the weekend in Spain stated the Dutch international would have to take a big pay cut if he was to remain at the club.
De Jong’s future will still be the subject of much speculation going into August.
