de jong luuk aDe Jong joined Newcastle from Borussia Monchengladbach in January, but despite making 10 appearances the striker has yet to net his first Premier League goal.

The 23-year-old is hoping to prove his worth in the remaining five matches to earn a permanent contract with the club this summer, with an agreed fee of around €8 million included in the loan agreement.

De Jong told Shields Gazette, “I just want to improve my game every game,”

“That’s why I love being here. I hope to be important for the team, and after this season, I hope to stay.

On English football, the Dutchman added,”I like it. It’s more physical than Germany and Holland. It’s how I like to play. There are a lot of aerial duels.

Newcastle are currently on a horrible run in the Premier League, and have lost four of their last five games, whilst netting only one goal in that time. De Jong’s next opportunity to impress will come on Saturday when Newcastle travel to Stoke.’
