Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong will join Barcelona in the summer. Both clubs have confirmed a deal worth €86 million.

The midfielder has signed a five-year-deal with the Spanish giants, who have paid Ajax an initial €75 million for De Jong. However, that fee will rise to €86 million through bonuses, making it the most expensive deal in Dutch football history.

The announcement from both clubs brings an end to a saga which has seen De Jong close to joining Manchester City and PSG. However, the 21-year-old has had his heart set on Barcelona and Camp Nou is his destination.

De Jong, who was signed from Willem II back in 2015 for €1 and some loan players, has burst onto the scene over the past year for Ajax and the Dutch national team. He will look to end his last six months in style with Ajax still in the Champions League and hunting for the title.

The deal is also lucrative for Willem II and RKC Waalwijk who will both receive part of the fee due to their combined academy.
