Barcelona remain top of the table in La Liga after a 0-0 draw with Real Madrid at the Nou Camp in Frenkie de Jong’s first El Clasico.

Barcelona and Real Madrid went into the clash even on 35 points but the hosts were top on goal difference.

Frenkie de Jong started in midfield alongside Sergi Roberto and Ivan Rakitic. The hosts were second best to Real Madrid though, with the visitors creating several chances to take the lead in the first half.

At the other end, Lionel Messi had a chance cleared off the line by Sergio Ramos.

In the second half, Real Madrid were once again the better side and they thought they had netted the winner when Gareth Bale found the net. However, it was ruled offside.

De Jong could have made himself the hero when he was played into space in the box but his shot was weak and easily kept out by Thibaut Courtois.

The draw means Barcelona remains top of La Liga.
