FC Emmen have confirmed the signing of Dutch forward Michael de Leeuw from Chicago Fire.

The 32-year-old’s contract with Chicago Fire ended at the conclusion of the MLS season and he had been looking for a new club.

On Monday, De Leeuw completed his return to the Eredivisie with FC Emmen, signing a one-and-a-half year deal with the option of another.

De Leeuw came through the Willem II academy before spells with SC Veendam, De Graafschap, and Groningen. He has spent the last two years in Chicago, scoring 13 goals in 60 appearances.

He adds some experience to the FC Emmen side that currently sits 13th in the table and is aiming to secure survival in their first ever Eredivisie campaign.
