Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Virgil van Dijk were all named in FIFA’s Team of the Year on Monday evening.

Virgil van Dijk was up for the FIFA player of the year but missed out to Lionel Messi. However, the Liverpool centre-back was selected in the team of the year for the second year running.

The Netherlands captain guided Liverpool to the Champions League trophy with several outstanding performances and also finished second in the Premier League.

All three also helped Netherlands reach the UEFA Nations League final before a slender defeat to hosts Portugal.

It is the first time that more than one Dutchman has been selected in the team of the year.

The full team is: Alisson Becker;Β Sergio Ramos, Virgil van Dijk, Matthijs de Ligt, Marcelo;Β Luka Modric, Frenkie de Jong, Eden Hazard;Β Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo
