Matthijs de Ligt was ecstatic after Ajax’s 2-1 victory over Juventus which saw the Amsterdam club reach the Champions League semi-finals.

The 19-year-old Ajax captain scored the winning goal in Turin to book his side’s place in the last four.

After the game, he told Veronica Inside, “We do it again, unbelievable. It’s bizarre. We realize that too: it’s not normal.

“I have no words for it. We are very proud of ourselves, the supporters are proud and the whole city is proud.

“Today we showed that we are a very strong team and can also make it difficult for teams like Juve. That ambience is so beautiful We had a hard time in the beginning, but in the end we are doing very well. “

On his winning goal he added, “The ball is high and I thought: I am going for it. I actually headed it perfectly in the corner.”

Asked if Ajax can go all the way, De Ligt stayed calm, “We are in the semifinals. We have eliminated Real and Juventus, yet two intended title candidates. We are going to see how it goes on.”
