Matthijs de Ligt is expected to be out of action for three months after undergoing shoulder surgery.

The defender turned 21 on Wednesday and also had shoulder surgery in Rome, which was successful according to Juventus.

De Ligt has been suffering with a shoulder complaint since the start of the year but waited until the season was over to undergo his surgery.

The centre-back is now set to be out of action until November, meaning he will miss the opening three Nations League games for the Netherlands and also the start of the new Serie A season.
