Juventus and Netherlands international centre-back Matthijs de Ligt has reflected on what has been an excellent year for the young defender.

The 20-year-old was awarded the Golden Boy and Kepa trophee in 2019 after an excellent year for Ajax, which also earned him a big money move to Juventus in the summer.

Looking back on the year, De Ligt is quoted by Voetbal International saying, “As a little boy I dreamed of becoming a professional football player. But if they had told me then that I would win the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy trophy and make it to the semi-final of the Champions League … all while I am only twenty years old. I never believed that. ”

Since joining Juventus, De Ligt has been criticised for his performances and he hasn’t started their last three matches. De Ligt said on his start in Italy, “Of course it’s different than in Amsterdam, but I’m having a good time. I was already proud of the interest, but I am honoured to wear the shirt.

“I train with the best players in the world and I feel that I am getting better every day. And it helps that you have to win everything at Juventus. That is the mentality that I also have. I want to stay here for a long time. ”
