Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt was left disappointed after their 1-0 defeat at Heracles Almelo on Saturday.

Ajax seemed to have rediscovered their form last weekend when they hammered VVV Venlo 6-0 but on Saturday they went down 1-0 at Heracles Almelo. Should PSV defeat Utrecht on Sunday, Ajax will be eight points off the top.

After the defeat, De Ligt admitted to Fox Sports that they are throwing away the title, “This was very far through the lower limit, especially in the first half when you play outrageously. You are two points behind at the winter break and you give it away within a month, which is just very bad, we have to look for it ourselves.”

De Ligt can’t pinpoint what the issue is, “We have said quietly: where are we with our head? What is it about Ajax before the winter break? It is not there, and how are we going to find it? It is very difficult to say where it is. sharpness, freshness, everything is missing We are trumped in the duels, the opponent is much brighter, we just give away balls, we are sloppy.

“That summarizes the game today and that is the problem of this group. It is on paper Heracles, but then you have to show that you are Ajax, we let ourselves be slaughtered like silly sheep and that is not allowed. It is unbelievable. “
