Marten de Roon has heaped praise on his Netherlands teammate Frenkie de Jong.

The Atlanta defensive midfielder has lined up alongside Frenkie de Jong in Netherlands midfield several times since Ronald Koeman took over Oranje.
De Roon has been impressed by his teammate and the fact that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi voted for him in the FIFA Player of the Year awards.
He told VI, “If footballers like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo vote for you in an election, then you know that he is good.
“I think I could reasonably see with the Dutch national team how good he is. It is special to play with such a person. Maybe it’s hard to see if you are that close to him as a teammate. I also talk about that with Hans (Hateboer). Who is the best player you’ve played with, I recently asked him. “Yes, Frenkie,”
De Roon also spoke about comparisons made between De Jong and Johan Cruyff, “He has a quality, a gogme, a charisma about him. I think that is why people compare him to Johan Cruijff. I have not seen Cruijff myself, but my father sometimes says that they have the sultry in common: how they move , how they can change direction. If I have Frenkie next to me, I like to play the ball to him, because I know he has some ideas. He has something nobody else has. “
I think Frenkie de Jong will in the near future be the best midfielder in the game. Also a very good chance he will win footballer of the year.
He is so calm and yes I see a bit of Cruyff in him.
I think what the Oranje supporters must remember is that de Jong is not the next Johan Cruijff but the first Frenkie de Jong. He may have the weight of a nation and maybe a story book ending making him the savior of Dutch football. But it won’t just be him. We sometimes forget the supporting cast and once Koeman figures out all of his pieces, the successors to the aging and the vision, it will be the 2022 Dutch team that lifts the World Cup!
“It will be the Dutch team that lifts the World Cup!”
Optimism and positivity are all great, but this quote is downright arrogance. The Dutch have had plenty of teams even more talented than this one may be that crashed and burned at major tournaments. I’d love for them to succeed to, but overconfidence like your statement will leave you even more devastated if they get knocked out in 2022.
Arrogance, due time and alignment of the stars. I just have a feeling. I don’t get too bent out of shape about these things Bob.
Agree Johnny he will make his own legacy & he I humble but confident he didn’t even expect to start most games at Barca. Too good tho & think he shown he was ready for move. Wish De Ligt would of taken another season tbh. He is struggling.
But yea Dutch squad so amazing & tho still think Weghorst should be in over Luuk De Jong who scored another goal 20 games unbeaten scored or assisted in very game if season in great form add tgt man up front for wingers to play off & defend from front but can drift wings.but luckly Fiji scores for fun Klopp is missing a step not letting Gini pkay further up bc if given more freedom he scores 10+ a season did at Newcastle & then have more spark from mod Keita was supposed to bring.
Then have Malen & coming up Boadu so good at 18 & Stengs, Koop, Itaharren, Summerville, & on.
Football is exciting a lot youth playing now. Eredivisie is competitive this season AZ & PSV big loses but have so excited front 3s.
Frank Frenkie will def be one of best mids in world soon & what’s great about him & Cruyff was like this can pkay anywhere CB further up he can score goal break pkay set tempo pur him at CF he would do well. He is just a class footballer.
