Marten de Roon would love it if Louis van Gaal was named as the new head coach of the Netherlands national team.

The KNVB are looking for a successor to Ronald Koeman and Louis van Gaal has reportedly told NOS that he is open to the position.

Speaking to NU.nl, De Roon said, “I don’t know Louis, Mr Van Gaal before me, personally, but the guys who worked with him are lyrical about him.

“He has proven to be one of the best Dutch coaches ever. I can only say that I would be honoured to play under his leadership.

“Van Gaal is a trainer with so many qualities that he fits every group. He has shown at several clubs that he is always able to achieve good results. Anyway, we should not worry about who will be the new national coach.”
