The 22-year-old centre back De Vrij, and 24-year-old right back Janmaat both have contracts with the Rotterdam club until 2015, but the club had been hoping to extend their deals.
Now Algameen Dagblad are reporting that contract talks have ended with both players, who are looking to wait until the summer before making any choice.
Feyenoord director Martin van Geel told AD, “Talks have stopped and we will wait for the summer.”
“With De Vrij, we have already made the decision to wait until after the World Cup
Both players should be heading to the World Cup with Netherlands this summer, which may increase the number of interested clubs, and the transfer income that Feyenoord could receive. The money gained from the sale of the two key players would go into a transfer kitty for new boss Fred Rutten to spend next season.
Clubs such as Arsenal and Inter Milan have been linked with Janmaat, while Liverpool are reportedly keen on De Vrij.
I think these guys deserve a better team now!
