The move has been rumoured for months but De Vrij finally confirmed on Monday that he would be swapping Rome for Milan.

De Vrij said, ”My transfer to Inter Milan from Lazio is now official. I have signed a 5-year deal.

”I wanted to focus on Lazio and achieve the goals that we set as a club. We Wanted to qualify for the Champions League but we have qualified for the Europa League next season.

”In our last Serie A match v Inter Milan it was not easy. I wanted to play well and everybody will have their opinion about events but I can look myself in the mirror and know that I gave everything during the match and the people that know me well and the Lazio staff know that too.

”This season with Lazio was a very long season where I played more than 50 matches and now I want to concentrate on the Dutch national team.

”I believe that Inter Milan will be a great step for my development as a player and I wanted a new challenge and I really enjoyed my time at Lazio and I believe that we have achieved all we can at the club.

”I believe that it is only a good thing that I will be playing at Inter Milan and Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool. It can only be good for Dutch football.”
