The 27-year-old has been linked with the English Championship club for over a week and has now agreed a pre-contract deal.
Te Wierik will make the move to Derby County in the summer when his contract at Groningen expires and he has agreed a contract until 2023.
Derby County boss Phillip Cocu told the club’s website, “Mike is someone I know well and I have no doubt whatsoever he will fit into our style of play here at Derby County.
“He is a good defender and a leader, which is demonstrated by the fact he is FC Groningen’s captain, and he will be a very good signing for us.”
Te Wierik started his career with Heracles Almelo before moving to Groningen in 2017. He has since become captain at the Euroborg.
