According to Mundo Deportivo, PSG made a desperate final attempt to sign Frenkie de Jong before he agreed to join Barcelona.

PSG were the favourites to sign the Ajax midfielder, but Barcelona eventually won the race for his signature in January after trumping the French side.

Mundo Deportivo are reporting that when PSG found out that Barcelona were set to sign the 21-year-old they made one final attempt to change his mind.

PSG Technical director Antero Henrique phoned de Jong’s agent Ali Dursun and offered the midfielder a blank cheque to choose his own salary.

Henrique also assured de Jong a place in the PSG line-up. However, it did not help as de Jong chose to join Barcelona in a deal worth €86 million.
