advocaatAdvocaat joined AZ last October after Gertjan Verbeek was sacked, and signed a deal until the end of the season. Under Advocaat the club has reached the Europa League quarter finals, and were recently beaten in the KNVB Cup by Ajax, but are 8th in the Eredivisie.

The 66-year-old has decided not to sign a contract extension, and will instead look for a new challenge outside of the Netherlands this summer.

AZ director Earnest Stewart has confirmed the club have already began their search for a new coach, and want a deal wrapped up as soon as possible.

Stewart told RTV,”The season is nearing its end, and things have to be arranged for next season so we hope to do so soon.”

“We are a development club. The head coach must deal in the same way with that Verbeek and Advocaat did. It’s a new generation of club that we must realize.”
