He stated that he felt that the Netherlands chances of qualifying for the World Cup in Russia 2018 remains the same, despite Sweden’s 4-0 win at Belarus.

Advocaat said, “I am satisfied with the result although I feel that we should have scored more goals. The majority of the team played well tonight with a good attitude too.

“We played against an opponent who were playing with 9 men behind the ball. That meant that we had to play the ball quickly and have good movement in an around the 18 yard box and I felt that we could have done that better.

“We still have to improve in the coming months and players will return to the international side such as Virgil van Dijk. We have to find a balance between midfielders and attackers in the squad. There is always more attention to potential attackers. But you see tonight with the midfielders Davy Propper scored two goals.

“Our chances to qualify for the World Cup 2018 have remained the same after our result tonight.”
