Emmen defeated Sparta 3-1 in Rotterdam to seal their promotion to the top flight for the first time in their history.

Lukkien said, ”After we went 2-1 up I thought that we would reach the Eredivisie. You saw the joy of our supporters in the away end at the final whistle and that was fantastic.

”I believe that we deserved our win today and also our run through the promotion/relegation play-offs this season.

”We must enjoy this moment. We are capable of holding our own in the Eredivisie. Our stadium was once again at full capacity for our home matches in the playoffs and we must now think of our approach in the Eredivisie for the coming season.

”This is a dream for me as a manager to gain promotion in only my second season. I must compliment everybody involved at the club and I am delighted.

”I have been able to create a real team here at FC Emmen with togetherness.”

Lukkien is already thinking of the transfer market in order to mould his squad for next season, ”Naturally we have a chance to stay up and we must look at the players we must keep hold of and potential signings to make us even stronger ”
