A 92nd minute free-kick by Javairo Dilrosun earned Netherlands U21’s a 2-1 victory over England.

After a great start to the European Championship qualifiers, Netherlands hosted England in a friendly clash in Doetinchem. Erwin van de Looi made four changes to the side that beat Gibraltar 6-0 with Maarten Paes, Justin Hoogma, Ferdi Kadioglu and Cody Gakpo making way for Kjell Scherpen, Rick van Drongelen, Ludovit Reis and Kaj Sierhuis.

Netherlands dominated possession from the start but they didn’t create many chances before taking the lead after half an hour. Deyovaisio Zeefuik’s cross was worked over the line by Sierhuis.

England dominated the early stages of the second half, but failed to really test Scherpen.

Netherlands got chances to settle the game but Cody Gakpo was denied by Aaron Ramsdale while Abdou Harroui struck the bar after weaving into the box.

15 minutes before the end, Rick van Drongelen struggled to deal with a long-ball and allowed Mason Greenwood a simple finish to make it 1-1.

The game was heading for a draw but in the 92nd minute, Netherlands netted the winner with Dilrosun firing an excellent free-kick into the top corner.
