The veteran striker started the tie on Sunday due to Tonny Vilhena’s suspension and ended up scoring a hat-trick which sealed the 3-1 win and Feyenoord’s first title since 1999.

A clearly emotional Kuyt said, ”It was a dream start to the game in such a fantastic stadium with brilliant supporters.

”There was so much pressure on me and the club and as an experienced player. I have been though that before but we have a squad full of young players who are yet to handle that.

”Last week (3-0 defeat at Excelsior) done us good as you see how we have learnt from it.

” I came here to win the league because I believed in myself and the club. The supporters are the driving force as they have never given up after 18 years.

” I can’t believe it. This is the title of Feyenoord and for the thousands of supporters that are here. This title is for all of us.”
