Interim Netherlands boss Dwight Lodeweges would not rule out the idea of Arjen Robben returning to the Dutch national team.

Robben hasn’t played for Netherlands since 2017 and has only just came out of retirement to play for Groningen this season.

However, speaking to De Telegraaf, Lodeweges said, “You don’t write off anyone in advance. Everything stands or falls with performance and he will have to earn it.

“We have had a fairly fixed group with which we have enforced European Championship qualification. That European Championship has now been postponed. We then said to each other that we would look at everyone again with a fresh look. That now also applies to Arjen Robben.”

Lodeweges thinks Robben could be an excellent option off the bench, “Who knows what he could mean, possibly from the bench? You are never too young, but perhaps never too old to be of value to a team. But let’s also wait and see what Arjen thinks about it himself. “
