drentheThe 26 year old winger was a free agent in the summer, after leaving Russian side lania Vladikavkaz, and wanted a return to his boyhood side Feyenoord.

Drenthe has revealed that although he held talks with director Martin van Geel, a return did not happen, and he joined English Championship side Reading.

Drenthe told RTV Rijnmond, “After that conversation, Mr. Van Geel discussed it with people from the club, but ultimately it ricocheted,”

“I sit here in Reading and can not talk about a possible return to Feyenoord, because the same people are perhaps still there. I wish them all the best, because I still have a bad day when I hear that they have lost. But it is not always easy.”

“The mistake people make is to say that Feyenoord did not want me back. I think sheer nonsense. I think it has to do with some people who were afraid to go to sea with me.”

“The supporters of Feyenoord, they are Feyenoord. I did not hear any of them say that I should not come back. It’s only “Royston, please come back to Feyenoord.”

“I can not say anything back and I always try to stay very cool but inside it hits me. Suppose I am a little older and later Feyenoord approaches me, I will never say no, ”

Drenthe made his debut for Feyenoord in 2006, but left soon after to join Real Madrid, where his career started to go off the track, and moves to Hercules, and Everton followed.
