Deroy Duarte is unsure whether he will sign a new deal with Sparta Rotterdam and is considering a move this summer.

The 21-year-old has impressed for Sparta this season, scoring four times and adding three assists in 17 Eredivisie games.

Duarte’s contract expires this summer and Sparta are trying to convince the youngster to sign a new deal. However, speaking to Algemeen Dagblad, Duarte said, “I am in a bit of a conflict. On the one hand, it is very nice that the club has indicated to me that it wants to continue with me. On the other hand, with the U21 European Championship ahead, it may also be the time to look further. ”

Duarte knows he has to add more goals and assists to attract the biggest clubs, “I can do even better. And I want to show that even more to the world. Because in the end it’s all about the statistics that you can submit. ”

The midfielder is a big Chelsea fan and he admits a move to the English giants is a dream for him, “But everyone can be ambitious, right?”

Duarte would not name clubs but added there is some interest in him, “There is some interest. But my focus is now only on Sparta. What I said: I have to score more, deliver an assist more often. Then we’ll see what happens in the summer. ”

Sparta Rotterdam boss Henk Fraser has advised the youngster to remain at the club,  “If Deroy were my son, I would advise him to sign a new contract today. I simply think that Sparta is the place for him where he can still take a lot of steps. And if he is really good, that big club will come naturally. ”
