Our weekly report on how all the Dutchmen playing in Europe’s biggest league’s featured over the weekend.

janssen-goalEnglish Premier League

Vincent Janssen finally ended his wait for a Premier League goal on Saturday with the striker netting a first half penalty against Leicester City after he was fouled in the box. However, it wasn’t enough to earn his side a victory as they were held to a 1-1 draw.

Patrick van Aanholt’s Sunderland are still without a win after they went down 4-1 at home to Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime. The left back played the full match but barely had an impact.

Manchester United were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at home to Burnley. Daley Blind played the full game while Memphis Depay came off the bench with nine minutes left.

Virgil van Dijk couldn’t prevent his side from being defeated 2-0 at home to Chelsea on Sunday. Jordy Clasie also started for the Saints but was substituted on the hour mark after a poor performance.

Daryl Janmaat made his return from injury as a 72 minute substitute in Watford’s 1-0 win over Hull City.

Georginio Wijnaldum was also back in action on Saturday evening as a substitute in Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Crystal Palace.

Ronald Koeman’s Everton returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory at home against West Ham on Sunday. Maarten Stekelenburg didn’t feature for the Toffee’s.

Monday night’s Premier League action saw Stoke City beat Swansea City 3-1 with four Dutchmen playing the full game. Erik Pieters and Bruno Martins Indi for the Potters and Leroy Fer and Mike van der Hoorn for the Swans. Fer ended the game with an impressive 93.6% pass accuracy

English Championship

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s QPR were defeated 2-0 at home by Brentford on Friday. Tjarron Chery played the full match but had little impact.

There was better news for Jaap Stam though with his Reading side beating Nottingham Forest 2-0. Joey van den Berg and Roy Beerens both started but were substituted before the end.

Yanick Wildschut started for Wigan in their 1-0 win at Cardiff City. Lex Immers came off the bench for the Welsh side but couldn’t find an equaliser.

Marvin Emnes played 80 minutes of Blackburn Rovers 1-1 draw with Wolves. The striker had a quiet afternoon and couldn’t find the net with two shots on goal.

Sunday saw Birmingham City draw 1-1 with bitter rivals Aston Villa. Maikel Kieftenbeld played 70 minutes of the game but made little impact.

Vurnon Anita was an unused substitute as leaders Newcastle United beat Preston 2-1.

German Bundesliga

Arjen Robben was in imperious form for Bayern Munich on Saturday with the winger netting once and adding two assists in a 3-1 win over Augsburg. Paul Verhaegh played the full game for Augsburg.

Spanish La Liga

Ryan Babel appeared from the bench with ten minutes left of Deportivo la Coruna’s 1-1 draw with Valencia but couldn’t net the winning goal.

Jasper Cillessen was back on the Barcelona bench for their 1-0 win over Granada on Saturday.

Italian Serie A

Frank de Boer’s jobĀ is hanging by a thread at Inter Milan after they were defeated 1-0 at Sampdoria. The Italian press are once again reporting that he could be sacked soon with other coaches being considered.

Wesley Hoedt once again played the full game in the heart of Lazio’s defence as they defeated Sassuolo 2-1 on Sunday. Ricardo Kishna was an unused substitute.

Kevin Strootman did not appear from the bench in Roma’s 0-0 draw at Empoli.

Kevin Diks was an unused substitute in Fiorentina’s 1-0 win over Bologna.

Jonathan de Guzman was an unused substitute in Chievo’s 2-0 loss at Crotone.

French Ligue 1

Karim Rekik was an unused substitute in Marseille’s 0-0 draw with Bordeaux.

Turkish Super Lig

Adam Maher’s frustration in Turkey continued on Saturday. The midfielder once again started on the bench for Osmanlispor against Gaziantepspor and only entered the field in the 73rd minute. His side went on to lose 3-1 with Bart van Hintum putting in an impressive performance for Gaziantepspor.

Robin van Persie scored twice and added an assist in Fenerbahce’s 5-0 win over Karabukspor, while Jeremain Lens also scored. Van Persie was substituted just after the hour mark by Dick Advocaat while Lens played the full game.

Jan Olde Riekerink’s Galatasaray recorded a 1-0 win over Adanaspor without Wesley Sneijder. Nigel de Jong came off the bench in the second half.

Russian Premier League

Quincy Promes returned from injury for Spartak Moscow in their 3-1 win over CSKA Moscow. The winger played ninety minutes before being substituted in injury time.

Lorenzo Ebecilio came off the bench for Anzhi in the 49th minute but couldn’t break the deadlock in a 0-0 draw with Krasnodar.

Portuguese Premeira liga

Sporting Lisbon were held to a 0-0 draw by Nacional. Bas Dost played the full game but couldn’t break the deadlock despite taking 3 shots. Marvin Zeegelar also featured for Sporting while Luc Castaignos was an unused substitute.

Danish Superliga

Rafael van der Vaart played an hour of Midtylland’s 3-1 defeat to Copenhagen before being substituted. The midfielder still hasn’t completed 90 minutes this season.

Swiss Super League

Jean-Paul Boetius remained on the bench for Basel in their 2-0 win at Grasshopper’s.
