Excelsior Rotterdam came from behind to defeat Emmen 2-1 thanks to a goal and assist from Marcus Edwards.

Both sides went into the game looking for a victory to lift them away from the bottom three and understandably the first half was a cagey affair with few chances.

Just before the hour mark, Emmen took the lead when Michael de Leeuw found the net with a nice strike. It was his first goal since returning to the Eredivisie in January.

However, the lead only lasted two minutes before Marcus Edwards dribbled his way into the Emmen box before firing in the equaliser.

Edwards then turned provider three minutes later to set up substitute Dennis Eckert to net the winning goal.

Emmen pushed for an equaliser but Excelsior held on for the three points which moves them to 14th while Emmen are 16th.
