Van der Sar said, ”This is a disaster. It is a long time that Ajax have not gone on to play any European football during a season. For the players and the fans it is difficult to take.

”People talk about a crisis but it is certainly dramatic especially with people looking backĀ on last season with playing great games in Europe and reaching the Europa League final. The players live for the European games and that will not be the case this year.

”We have to let this sink in what has happened. We have to find a balance between what we need, buying players andĀ letting talent develop. Some situations are better than others.

”We had chances to win here tonight. As a club we have a lot of experienced personnel here and Marcel Keizer is our manager and we have full confidence in his approach that is what we decided a few months ago and we are not quickly going to change that.”
